Buhay

Balik Bayan meaning “return home” is a month-long cultural and artistic programme taking place in July 2026 that reflects on the Philippines’ journey to independence, produced by MilkTea, an award-winning community organisation.

We are excited to announce that we have combined all of our exhibition strands into a single exhibition: “BUHAY" Meaning "alive/life", featuring a chorus of creative voices that reflect on what it means to be Filipino.

We invite our community to experience Kwentong Kahon, an installation that explores the tradition of the balik bayan box, produced by Graciela Mae Chico.

After immerse yourself in a collection of work from the following artists, curated by Gabby Lauren:

  • Chelsea Laylo

  • Chelsea Pineda

  • Daryl Rainbow

  • Hannah Reyes Morales

  • Lynda Lorraine

  • Paris Zarcilla

BUHAY is a free exhibition that runs from 21-25 July at BSMT, 529 Kingsland Road.

Meet the artists at a celebratory drinks reception on 21 July, 6-9PM - RSVP here.

Delivered in collaboration with Occasians, Voice ESEA, Centre 151, Kanlungan, Migration Museum + Centre 151; and supported by Arts Council England, awarding funds from the National Lottery.
