Joy Ride is the directorial debut of Adele Lim, the Malaysian American writer behind the game changing Crazy Rich Asians & Disney’s Raya, the Last Dragon. In Joy Ride, we meet four Asian American friends who make & break their friendship bonds as they travel through Asia in search of identity, discovering what it means to know & love themselves and each other. Joy Ride, like its namesake, is a bold, caustic & raunchy Asian diaspora romp.

MilkTea hosted a very special free preview of Joy Ride at Vue Piccadilly on the 1 August. There was a kawaii photo booth & some very R-rated cookies!

You can relive highlights from the screening here.

As part of our collaboration, we developed You, Me & Adoption, a companion piece to the film which was co-created with the following adoptees from our British ESEA community: Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan, Jun Seok Kim, Mariano Valenciano Venida III & Shaofan Wilson. You can see this guide here.

Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan is a Filipino-American researcher & cultural producer based in London. His work advocates for LGBTQIA+ representation in the art & cultural sectors by providing platforms for marginalised voices.

Mariano Valenciano Venida III is a London based freelance photographer, actor, singer, musician & visual artist.

Jun Seok Kim aka Seoul Train is a Korean adoptee raised in the Netherlands & now based in London. He is a composer, self-producing artist, DJ, pianist & percussionist.

Shaofan Wilson is a Chinese adoptee who grew up in Leicestershire. She trained as an actor & her theatre work includes a recurring role in the RSC production of My Neighbour Totoro.
